If you have been feeling behind, stuck, or like you keep “falling off” your goals, you are not broken. You are probably building in the wrong season.
I’ve talked about this on Substack before, but not in this way. Today, I’m sharing our most recent podcast episode where Kyle and I dive into the Seven Seasons framework.
The reality is, most people were taught a lie about personal growth. The lie is that if you are doing life “right,” it should keep improving in a straight line. More success. More clarity. More confidence. More momentum. But real life does not work like that. Human growth is cyclical. You rise, you fall, you shed, you rebuild. You do not graduate into permanent certainty.
That is why I built a framework called The 7 Seasons of Becoming Human. It helps you orient to where you are right now, release the judgment, and stop forcing a strategy that does not match your current season. When you learn to work with your season instead of fighting it, life gets clearer. Goals get easier to hold. Your nervous system softens. Your choices get cleaner.
You can also be in multiple seasons at once. You might be in one season in business and a different season in health or faith. That is normal. The goal is not to label yourself. The goal is to understand what life is asking of you right now.
Here are the seven seasons.
1) Comfort
This season is about safety, belonging, structure, and fitting in. The archetype is the conformer or the citizen. You learn how systems work. You learn how to function inside a world that already has rules.
The question underneath this season is: Who do they need me to be?
Comfort can look like success from the outside. Stable job. Good school. Solid friend group. Predictable routine. But it can also hide self-abandonment. You may be checking every box and still feel empty.
The gift is structure. The risk is stagnation.
2) Disruption
This is the season where something shakes. Something breaks. The identity you built in comfort cannot hold anymore. The archetype is the initiate.
Disruption can look like loss, betrayal, illness, a diagnosis, a breakup, a job change, a move, a wake-up call you did not ask for. It can feel unfair. But this season is not punishment. It is initiation.
The question underneath this season is: Why is this happening to me?
The medicine here is truth. Courage. Honesty. Awakening. It interrupts false stability so something more aligned can emerge.
3) Liminality
This is the in-between. The fog. The “I am not who I was, but I am not who I am becoming yet.” The archetype is the hermit and the seeker.
This season dissolves identity. It strips what was external. It exposes what was performative. It asks you to surrender your grip on certainty.
The question underneath this season is: Who am I without the old story?
The gift is faith. Stillness. inner authority. The challenge is uncertainty, isolation, grief, and the urge to escape.
If you are here, hear me clearly. This is not a void. It is a womb. Something is forming.
4) Discovery
This is the return of aliveness. You start to experiment again. You try new things without needing them to be permanent. The archetype is the explorer.
This is the season of play, possibility, and curiosity. You are collecting data. You are meeting yourself again.
The question underneath this season is: What is calling me forward?
The challenge is distraction, scattered energy, and overwhelm. The medicine is detachment. Curiosity without conclusions.
5) Decision
Curiosity matures into commitment. You get off the fence. You stop leaving a door open “just in case.” The archetype is the devoted warrior.
The question underneath this season is: What am I willing to claim?
Decision is a cut. That is what decide means. You cut off other options. You choose with integrity. You align your actions with what you say you want.
The challenge is fear of choosing wrong and fear of missing out. But you will never know what would have happened on the other path. If it was meant to be, you would be there.
6) Founding
Now you build. You turn commitment into form. Systems. Rhythms. Routines. Sustainability. The archetype is the architect.
The question underneath this season is: What am I here to build?
This season requires focus. Discipline. Structure. It is quieter. Less flashy. More real.
The challenge is burnout and over-control. The medicine is consistency. Design that lasts.
7) Stewardship
This is legacy. Service. Wisdom. Love. The archetype is the elder.
This season is about tending what you built and learning what to release. You stop chasing and start multiplying. You lead from experience, not theory.
The question underneath this season is: What do I tend, and what do I release?
The challenge is over-giving, martyrdom, and clinging to relevance. The medicine is generosity without losing yourself.
Why this matters for your goals
If you are in liminality, you do not need a bigger strategy. You need stillness and truth.
If you are in discovery, you do not need a ten-year plan. You need experimentation.
If you are in founding, you do not need more inspiration. You need systems.
If you are in stewardship, you do not need more hustle. You need discernment and release.
A lot of people feel stuck because they are taking advice from someone in a different season. They are running someone else’s playbook in the wrong chapter of their own life.
Seasons reveal where you are. Groundwork teaches you how to be there.
Knowing your season does not automatically change your nervous system, your habits, or your reactions.
Most people do not struggle because they lack insight.
They struggle because their nervous system doesn’t have the capacity to hold and properly process what it’s experiencing.
This is where Groundwork comes in.
Groundwork is the foundational work of learning how to:
Stay regulated when life is uncertain
Feel your emotions instead of intellectualizing them
Build safety inside your body before trying to “optimize” your life
Make decisions without rushing or collapsing
Create routines that actually match your capacity
No matter which season you are in, Groundwork is what allows you to move through it without forcing, numbing, or burning out.
If you found yourself nodding while reading this, Groundwork is where you start.
It is the work beneath the work.
The roots that allow real growth to happen.
